The Road to Iowa 2014!!!

Unread post by dano903 » Tue Sep 03, 2013 5:44 pm

let me catch you up on this topic... I posted this idea on the forumini last week and had some positive response to this. The idea is to have a AAM convention. We would have to plan the get together, but there is enough support to coordinate this idea. here are some purposed ideas.

The Road to Iowa 2014!

I just got off the phone with Maus. we talked about some details concerning this idea.

here are some ideas...

we meet the weekend of June 6th(Friday), or June 13th(Friday) for the weekend. we can do the meet and greet Friday night, and game all day Saturday and Sunday.

The Waterloo airport is a puddle jumper, so people would fly into Minneapolis...puddle jump to Waterloo, and get picked up by the local foruminians.

we would try to get a hotel group rate, as long as they had a room to play in. we would plan for 25 to 35 people (including kids and wives etc.) we would try to make this family friendly.

in the town of Waterloo is a Waterpark, museum, and a casino nearby. As we play, the family can also visit attractions close by.

we would try to set-up A20, A&A board games, W@S, AAM, and open gaming. We would have planned gaming/activities for kids.

Back to the dates...

we wanted to avoid the major holiday of Memorial weekend. We thought the hotel rates would be higher, and families may have plans as well. However, this could be a combination of family time, along with gaming. The following weekend is June 6th which would be a good anniversary to honor as well.

So, I would like to get your opinion for June 6th.

June 6th is good, as the 13th is our wedding anniversary, that might be tough to talk her into it, not impossible but tough.

Sounds like an awesome idea! I tried to check to see if I could take the train from Michigan but it looks like it goes to far south into Iowa to get to Waterloo. I like taking the trains, they will let you bring a ton of luggage and never go through it or charge you extra for bringing multiple bags. I want to bring all my minis and would hate to get them lost at the airport

Sounds like a ton of fun, I wished I could be there. :(

that's right... right in the middle of your road work season!!! We're thinking we could do this every other year in Iowa or a different area depending on support in the East, then do Pacificon on the West Coast.

what are your non-work day months? what can we do to meet with you???

thanks!

If we agree to dates by November we can lock in the holidays. It will be my plan to travel in on the Friday for the meet/greet and leave on the Monday so that no gaming time is missed!

My busy time usually ends in Early November and starts again in Early June. I guess its the distance that is an issue where I would have to fly to get to Iowa and thats where things would get expensive. I guess I will have to remain the mystery man with no face to put with the name.

I really would like to go, but I think I won't get permission to jump over the big pond for a weekend of gaming ;)

If you ever come to Europe -> Austria -> Vienna i am in the boat... :ausflag:
