What I want to now is:

- Which Sherman flame tank (M4A3 Zippo or Sherman Crocodile) was in the european theater?
- Which flamethrower got the M4A3 Zippo, hull-mounted or one instead of the main gun?
- Which main gun got the M4A3 Zippo, if the flamethrower was hull-mounted?

Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Great Question! I've gone through a bunch of my resources and the best I can do is a paragraph from "The Standard Guide to US WWII Tanks & Artillery"

They say that flamethrower versions of the Sherman were never standardized equipment, but all deemed experimental. It didn't say that no Shermans had flamethrowers in the ETO, but it did state that almost all of them were in the Pacific Theater. It said that the flamethrower either replaced the bow MG or the main gun...it did not specify further than that.

Hope this helps...

That's fine with me. I will make a card with a hull-mounted flamethrower. That's easier to proxy.

Thanks for your help!

Sherman Crocodile: 4 Shermans were converted by the UK for the US Army, used by 2nd Armored. Flame-nozzle was mounted in a sponson to the right of the bow MG. Fuel was carried in an armored trailer exactly like the Churchill Crocodile's armored fuel trailer.

The flame-nozzle was NOT mounted in the turret ala Company of Heroes (video game). The Sherman Crocodile depicted in game is a fantasy partially based on the Sherman Salamander, a singular and unsuccessful prototype using the flamethrower system from the Wasp and a dummy barrel. Company of Heroes is a very fun game but some historical details are sacrificed in the name of game play.
